Your heart is a marvelous pumping organ! It has been compared to the sun in our solar system. All of our organs (planets) depend upon the heart (sun) for warmth and life in our inner universes. If you think about the sun’s dependability, like clockwork every day, rising and setting for thousands of years, your heart resembles the Solar Sun. Your wonderful heart (sun) burns “chi” (energy), supporting all of your organs and fueling blood flow throughout the entire circulatory system.
“Your heart’s purpose is to pump blood and nutrients 24 hours a day to all of your body’s cells. Your heart contracts and relaxes approximately 100,000 times each day, pumping about 2,000 gallons of blood. This means that during a 70-year lifetime the heart beats more than 2.5 billion times and pumps approximately one million barrels of blood,” Natural Heart Cures by Michael Cutler, M.D.
In Chinese medicine, “heart” is the “emperor” of the body, and everything is dependent upon it. The emotions that are “housed” in this “palace” include joy, happiness, self-confidence and compassion. Since heart disease happens to be the number one killer in America, one of the questions that I always ask a new client is “What makes you happy?” Shockingly, most do not know the answer.
“Happiness” is an “inside job” no matter how much or how little a person has, and yet we spend a lifetime looking for an illusory dream outside ourselves. If you become quiet and go deep within your heart, you will uncover the answer to this question; your emotional heart knows what it is you need to discover fulfillment, passion, love and purpose, which are all waiting for you inside the inner chamber of your treasure. Did you know that all truth resides within your heart?
How can one detect the blocked emotions of an overworked and out-of-balance heart (life)? The symptoms include sadness, discouragement, self-doubt, despair, emptiness, hopelessness, depression, anxiety, nervousness, shock and hurt. If you take the time to slow down from life’s craziness and ask yourself this one simple question concerning happiness, you will discover what is most important for your well-being on every level.
So, why then do we continue to run from the responsibility of taking care of our health and, in turn, protecting our “wealth”? What I have found over the years is that most people have an inability to see their true inner depth and they are unable to acknowledge the riches and unmeasurable gifts that are waiting there to be uncovered.
Loving and respecting yourself and your body is the greatest gift that we can give to ourselves, our families, and the world. Most heart disease begins as children and occurs on the mental body; then psychological concrete forms around the emotional heart, which ultimately affects the physical heart. I encourage you to feel what is in your heart and to understand how important it is to be connected to the body and its inner wisdom.
What you put into the body affects you physically, emotionally, and mentally. Soda pop, fast food, and sugar have a profound negative effect on your heart and circulatory system. All these unnatural manmade foods take away from your life force. The scientific medical community is now seeing hardening of the arteries in children and chronic diseases that have never before been seen in people so young.
The root cause of heart disease is this: What we think about we become. When we think we are not special, talented, smart and phenomenal, or that we don’t have “the right goods,” we shrink, feeling small and unworthy. This false belief stays with us throughout our lives, until we decide to do and be different.
“I have chosen to be happy because it is good for my health,” French Philosopher Voltaire (1694-1778). Don’t postpone your JOY, ask the question; it is waiting in your heart for you to find.
